Warning: Telephone communications and website misusing the details of Rajdeo Boodhoo and Raj Law Solicitors

Telephone calls have been made and received misusing the details of a genuine solicitor, Rajdeo Boodhoo, and the firm of solicitors, Raj Law Solicitors, in relation to a conveyancing transaction.
What is the scam?
The SRA has been informed that an unknown person has purported to be solicitor Rajdeo Boodhoo of Raj Law Solicitors during the course of a conveyancing transaction.
The caller presented themselves as acting for the seller in the transaction and provided details for a bank account, which were confirmed with the bank as being a match to the firm’s bank account details. This account was used to receive deposit monies, following which the unknown party behind the scam has been uncontactable.
A website (https://raj-law.co.uk/) purporting to be the website of the Raj Law Solicitors has also been created by unknown parties with the telephone number 020 8050 5507.
Is there a genuine firm or person?
The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Raj Law Solicitors (SRA ID 421980). The firm's head office is at 169 Tooting High Street, Tooting Broadway, London, SW17 0SY. The firm does not currently operate a website. The telephone number associated with the genuine Raj Law Solicitors is 0203 133 0000. The genuine website address is https://www.rajlaw.co.uk/.
The SRA also authorises and regulates Rajdeo Boodhoo, (SRA ID 225551), who works at the firm.
The genuine Raj Law Solicitors and Rajdeo Boodhoo have confirmed that they do not have any connection to the telephone calls and website referenced in this report or to the conveyancing transaction.
What should I do?
When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
