3 July 2025

A commercial lease agreement and a letter has been sent to an energy company, falsely claiming to be from 'Nishanthan Chandan Solicitors'.

What is the scam?

The SRA has been informed that a commercial lease agreement and a letter has been sent to an energy company, falsely claiming to be from 'Nishanthan Chandan Solicitors'.

The commercial lease agreement seen by the SRA contains a 'stamp' that includes the name and SRA number of a genuine solicitor and provides the email address 'Nishanthansolicitors.co.uk'. The letter accompanying the agreement misused the postal address of a genuine firm of solicitors (see below).

We understand that the documents were sent to the recipient by email. The email was sent from the email address 'info@nishanthansolicitors.co.uk' and provided a website address of 'www.nishanthansolicitors.co.uk'.

The SRA does not authorise or regulate a firm of solicitors called 'Nishanthan Chandan Solicitors'.

Any business or transaction through the above email addresses and the website address is not undertaken by a firm or solicitor authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine solicitor called Nishanthan Chandan with the SRA number: 825507. The genuine Nishanthan Chandan has confirmed that he has no connection to the above matter.

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called TTS Legal Ltd. Its postal address is 1 - 4 The Parade, Monarch Way, Ilford, Essex, IG2 7HT. The genuine firm of TTS Legal Ltd has confirmed that it has no connection to the above matter.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
